What is sedamo?

The purpose of sedamo

Despite e-Mail, ICQ, MSN and so on... a letter is a letter. The thrill to receive a personal note travelling from far has its own taste. The Internet enables us to make pen friends in countries far away—so far that we even cannot write their address!

sedamo helps to stay in contact with people all over the world. The receiver registers his address at sedamo and gets an eight letters long string, the so-called sedamo code, which looks somehow like ab-cd-ef-gh. The sender uses this sedamo code to get the correctly written and formatted address—even if it's in Chinese, Japanese or Russian!

Registering an address is as easy as 1-2-3, see overview below.

Is sedamo for free?
Yes. sedamo is for free and it will be for free. However, you are welcome to make a donation, just follow the link.
I want to give Euro

My language is not in the list. Can I still use sedamo?
Yes! Choose another language you can understand. The address service is language-independent.

My mother tongue is yet not supported by sedamo. Can I add it?
Yes, you are warmly welcome! Please send an e-Mail to info@sedamo.info before you start translation.

Where do I have to write my name?
Nowhere! sedamo only registers the “anonymous” address, not the name or other sensitive data (like e-Mail addresses).

Why does my address look so funny?
sedamo follows international standards to make sure that a letter will reach its destination. Especially for addresses in non-Latin writing, this means that parts of your address appears twice: in the local language and in Latin (romanization).

I have forgotten my sedamo code! What can I do?
Enter your address exactly in the same way as you did it for the first time. This means particularly, that you do not need to select an entry marked with a star (*). You will receive the same sedamo code again.

I have moved! Can I change my address?
No! But you can look up the sedamo address code of your new place. (The sedamo code is related to the address, not to the addressee.)

Can I add sedamo to my homepage?
Yes, of course. You can save your visitor from entering the sedamo code by using a link like this:

Please use the plain code, capital characters, no dots or dashes.

Can I use the sedamo logo on my namecard?
That's a nice idea! Save the linked file for a small black-and-white version (10pt high at 300dpi) of the logo

Can I export addresses to my database? Is there a database interface?
Yes, addresses can be looked up and will be received in UTF-8 XML format. Please contact us for technical details: info@sedamo.info

Will you sell my address? (And I get a lot of advertising.)
No! Besides, companies are only interested in address with names (and background information, such as hobbies).

Yes, of course! The sedamo code is AA-AA-AA-AA Please enter “service d'adresse mondial” or “worldwide address service” as the receiver.

How to look up your sedamo

(1) At the starting page, please enter the Turing number (a sequence of numbers shown in the graphic box), choose your preferred language, and click “address >>> sedamo”.

(2) Enter your address as exact as possible. Personal data such as e-Mail address and name are optional! Your address may consist of street name, house number, city and postcode, province/country and additional address lines (like building name or apartment number). Please do not use abbreviations: write “Sunset boulevard” instead of “Sunset BLVD”, use “Nevada” instead of “NV”! Please use the native, “correct” way. For languages in non-Latin characters, please use your native characters, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Finally, click Next button.
